The defender will stay at SC Freiburg for a fifth season.
The 24-year-old initially joined Sport-Club on loan from Real Madrid in 2017 and joined permanently the following season, going on to play 88 competitive games for the club. This season, the defender has four Bundesliga goals to his name so far. Lienhart is a current Austrian international and could be in the squad for the upcoming European Championship.
"If you are convinced of each other in from both a sporting and human perspective, you should extend - that's what we did," said sporting director Klemens Hartenbach. "During his time at the club, Philipp has developed consistently both defensively and offensively and is a recognised part of our team. We are therefore very pleased that we can continue our journey together."
Philipp Lienhart: "Here in Freiburg, as a young player, I got the opportunity to develop into an established Bundesliga player. I'm very grateful to the club for that, and I want to repay that trust through my performances in the future. SC is a great club whose philosophy I can really identify with. I find the conditions here to be the best to be able to strengthen myself at a high level and to become even better."
The details of the contract will not be disclosed.
