The experienced defender joined SC from Werder Bremen ahead of the current season and has since made 15 appearances across the Bundesliga and UEFA Europa League. Overall, the 34-year-old has featured in more than 400 professional matches for SC Freiburg, Werder Bremen, Brøndby IF, RB Leipzig, FC Ingolstadt and FSV Frankfurt.

“Tony’s first year with us went exactly as we had hoped,” said board member Jochen Saier. “He has been highly professional from day one and has always delivered whenever he was called upon. Beyond that, his experience is incredibly valuable to the team in many areas off the pitch. We’re fully convinced that Tony still has a great deal to offer this squad, and we’re very pleased to be heading into a second season together at Freiburg.”

Anthony Jung said: “It’s a great privilege for me to be part of this team and to have the chance to contribute to our success. Beyond the football itself, the atmosphere and the way people work together here is something very special. I’m looking forward to continuing to be a part of this close-knit group.”

The two parties have agreed not to disclose the details of the contract.
