Of the five SC players who had taken part at the World Cup, only one remained after the round of 32. Johan Manzambi and Switzerland had booked their place in the round of 16, where they faced Colombia. In Vancouver, Canada, Manzambi was forced to watch from the sidelines with a knee injury and had to sit through a tense 120 minutes and a penalty shootout before he could celebrate reaching the last eight with his teammates. Switzerland will now face Argentina in the quarter-finals this coming Sunday.
