SC travel to Düsseldorf for DFB-Pokal first round

SC Freiburg will face Fortuna Düsseldorf in the first round of the 2026/27 DFB-Pokal, following Saturday evening’s draw at the German Football Museum in Dortmund.

Former referee Deniz Aytekin, who ended his active career on the final matchday of last season’s Bundesliga campaign, conducted the draw for the 32 first-round ties in Dortmund.

Aytekin drew third-tier Fortuna Düsseldorf as SC’s first-round opponents. Düsseldorf finished second bottom of Bundesliga 2 last season and were therefore relegated to the third division. SC also faced the Rhineland club in last season’s cup competition, winning 3-1 at the Merkur Spiel-Arena in the second round.

The first round will be played from 21st to 24th August 2026. Exact dates and kick-off times will be confirmed in due course.
