Jannik Huth to remain at SC Freiburg
SC Freiburg and goalkeeper Jannik Huth have agreed on an extension to the player’s contract.
Jannik Huth arrived at the Europa-Park-Stadion in the summer of 2024 after completing a move from SC Paderborn, where he had made a total of 91 competitive appearances in the net. The former Germany U21 international has also had a taste of continental football, having spent the second half of the 2017/18 season on loan at Sparta Rotterdam. The 32-year-old has been named in SC’s matchday squad 28 times across the last two seasons, in the Bundesliga, the Europa League and the DFB-Pokal.
“It’s not an easy thing for a footballer to always work on the periphery, knowing that you’ll hardly ever get the chance to play on a matchday. Jannik demands the highest standards from himself and does a lot to support others,” said sporting director Klemens Hartenbach. “It’s also down in no small part to him that all of our keepers can develop so well here. We’re delighted that Jannik will be staying here with us.”
Jannik Huth himself added: “I feel like I’m in great shape right now, I’m in a really good place. I’ve come to learn in Freiburg that, even at my age, there’s still something to learn every day. It’s a lot of fun, being here. I’m far from finished in my playing career, I want to keep going as I am and continue to improve.”
The two parties have agreed not to disclose the details of the contract.
