SC Freiburg have announced the transfer of Amir Abrashi to GC Zürich. Abrashi has been a key figure at SCF over the last six years.
"We aren't just losing a player in Amir, but also a very special person," said sporting director Klemens Hartenbach. "Amir is extremely passionate about life and football."
Amir Abrashi joined SC Freiburg from GC Zürich in 2015/16, helping the club win promotion back to the Bundesliga in his debut season in Freiburg. The Albania international made 98 appearances for the club, scoring four goals. Abrashi was sidelined by injuries during his time in Freiburg, including a cruciate ligament tear in early 2018. The 31-year-old was on loan at Basel for the second half of the 2020/21 season.
"He joined us during what was a tough time for the club, as we had just been relegated. His efforts on the pitch, as well as his never-ending optimism and energy were of great benefit to us throughout his time here," said Hartenbach. "Amir now needs regular playing time, which is why we have granted his wish to return to Grasshopper Club Zürich."
SC Freiburg would like to wish Amir all the best in Zürich, who have just been promoted to the Super League. We will never forget you, Amir, and you are welcome back in Freiburg any time!
