Captain and record appearance maker Christian Günter extends his time at SCF
SC Freiburg and Christian Günter have agreed to extend the captain’s successful career at the club.
Christian Günter has been playing for SC Freiburg since C-Junior level. As a 19-year old talent, he made his Bundesliga debut in 2012 against SpVgg Greuther Fürth. Since the 2020/21 season, he has represented Freiburg as team captain, and last November, he became the club’s all-time leading appearance maker with 440 games under his belt, surpassing previous record holder Andreas Zeyer. To date, the left-back has made 453 appearances for SC, and everything points toward a good few games to come for the 32-year-old.
“There have been so many occasions in the past when Christian’s sporting and personal qualities have rightly been highlighted. Christian would probably say: enough talking, let’s get on with it!” said sporting director Klemens Hartenbach. “What’s remarkable is that Christian isn’t letting up in any regard. We’re delighted with this news.”
Christian Günter himself added: “I’m still extremely hungry, and there’s nothing better than playing for SC Freiburg. As a team, we’ve been successful again this season, and we want to keep that going. I’m looking forward to the many challenges that still lie ahead of me.”
The club and player have agreed to keep the details of the contract confidential.
