SC Freiburg have agreed a contact extension with winger Vincenzo Grifo.
Grifo first joined the club in 2015 from TSG Hoffenheim and went on to lift the Bundesliga 2 title in his debut season with SC. He then moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach in summer 2017, before returning to Hoffenheim a year later. The midfielder then returned to Freiburg on loan in January 2019, later making the move permanent at the end of the season. Grifo has featured in a total of 307 competitive games for the club (94 goals, 88 assists), putting him amongst the club’s top five record appearance makers.
“There’s no end in sight yet for Vince,” said SC sporting director Klemens Hartenbach. “He’s a leader on and off the pitch, is in peak physical condition and has managed to take his game to another level this past year. It’s not only his statistics that make him a valuable addition to our team, but also the leadership and sense of security he provides to those around him. We’re looking forward to seeing more of this in the years to come.”
“None of this seemed possible when I first arrived here in 2015. Freiburg has since become my home and the place where I’ve left my heart. Additionally, I’ve been able to make 307 competitive appearances for SC. I feel good here, both in a personal and sporting sense. I want to continue on the path we’re on here, feature in as many games as possible and help the lads out, while also continuing to improve as a player,” said Grifo.
The contract details will remain undisclosed.
