Wagner spent the second half of last season on loan at Dresden, impressing in his 15 Bundesliga 2 appearances and helping Dynamo avoid relegation. The 22-year-old had played for Holstein Kiel during the first half of the campaign. In the previous two seasons, he featured for Bundesliga side FC St. Pauli and second-tier club SpVgg Greuther Fürth. The Lahr-born midfielder first joined the Freiburg Football School at the age of 11 and went on to make four Bundesliga appearances for SC, as well as featuring in the Europa League game away to Qarabag in November 2022. He also played 48 times for Freiburg’s U23s in the 3. Liga under current Dynamo head coach Thomas Stamm.

“The past six months in Dresden have shown how valuable Robert can be to a team when he is fully fit and in the right environment. The challenge now is to produce that consistently at Dynamo. He is still a young player with plenty of potential to improve,” commented sporting director Klemens Hartenbach. “We wish Robert all the very best at Dynamo and will continue to follow his progress closely.”

The terms of the deal will remain undisclosed.
