SC Freiburg have extended Nils Petersen's contract. The 33-year-old striker has been at the club since 2015 and has scored 99 goals in 231 competitive games.
Nils Petersen is SC’s all-time top goalscorer, whilst he also holds the record for most goals in the Bundesliga as a substitute (31). He was once again named in the team council at the start of the season by his teammates and is a vice-captain.
“We gave Nils all the time he needed to make his decision. We’re now delighted that he’s extended his contract,” said sporting director Jochen Saier. “Nils has performed so well for SC over the last seven years and has shown recently that he’s still a great finisher. He is a real asset to us both on and off the pitch.”
Nils Petersen himself stated: “It’s no secret that I’ve had a great time here at Freiburg and the city has become a massive part of my life. I’m focused on the future, however, and I want to achieve plenty with this team. I’m therefore pleased to have extended my contract and I’m looking forward to the upcoming challenges.”
All details of the contract will remain undisclosed.
