Noah Atubolu, Merlin Röhl and Max Rosenfelder were part of the Germany U21 side to be defeated 3-2 by England after extra-time in the European Championship final.
Lady Luck was not on Germany’s side in Bratislava. The U21s fell to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of England after extra-time in the European Championship final. An enthralling contest saw the Young Lions race into a 2-0 lead, peppering Noah Atubolu’s goal; however, Germany fought back to draw level in the second half. Two Mainz players, Nelson Weiper and Paul Nebel, scored their nation’s pair before Nebel was inches away from a winner in stoppage time at the end of the regulation period, striking the crossbar. Merlin Röhl had been brought on in the 80th minute and right at the end of the additional 30-minute period, he also rattled the bar. However, not long into extra-time, England had found a third and decisive goal (93), which subjected SC players Atubolu, Röhl and Max Rosenfelder, who missed the final through injury, to the runners-up spot at the conclusion of a strong tournament’s performance.
