The DFB-Pokal second-round ties were drawn at the German Football Museum in Dortmund on Saturday. Former Germany international and World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger conducted the draw and pulled SC Freiburg out as the sixth-last team. That secured SC a home tie, with Julian Schuster’s side set to welcome VfL Wolfsburg, who were relegated from the Bundesliga last season.

The teams were split into two pots for the draw. Pot 2 contained the first- and second-division sides, while Pot 1 featured teams from the lower leagues, who were guaranteed home advantage. Three sides remained in Pot 1: third-tier clubs SG Sonnenhof Großaspach and Rot-Weiss Essen, as well as fourth-division outfit SSV Jeddeloh II.

VfL Wolfsburg came through their first-round tie away to fourth-tier VSG Altglienicke 6-5 on penalties. SC booked their place in the second round in August with a 5-1 victory on the road at Fortuna Düsseldorf. Freiburg and Wolfsburg have met twice before in the DFB-Pokal, with VfL winning on both occasions. Wolfsburg beat SC 1-0 in the quarter-finals of the 2014/15 season and recorded the same scoreline at home in the second round of the 2006/07 competition.

The second-round ties will be played on Tuesday, 27th October and Wednesday, 28th October. Exact kick-off times are usually confirmed a few days after the draw. Ticketing information for the cup tie will follow shortly.
