DFB-Pokal: SC to visit Kaiserslautern in round of 16
SC Freiburg will travel to 2. Bundesliga side 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the round of 16 of the DFB-Pokal in early December.
Just days after the conclusion of the second round, the draw for the next stage of the competition took place on Sunday evening as part of ARD’s Sportschau programme. Ten Bundesliga clubs and six second-tier sides were in the hat, with Germany women’s national handball team coach Markus Gaugisch conducting the draw at the German Football Museum in Dortmund.
After a convincing 5-1 win away to Düsseldorf and a dramatic 3-2 victory over VfL Wolfsburg, SC Freiburg now face a trip to 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Currently fourth in the 2. Bundesliga, Kaiserslautern have been coached by Thorsten Lieberknecht since summer 2025 and booked their place in the last 16 with victories over Waldhof Mannheim (1-0 after extra time) and Hannover 96 (2-0) in the opening two rounds.
The round of 16 ties will take place on 1st and 2nd December, with the exact kick-off times yet to be confirmed.
