We’ve taken a look back at the statistics, milestones, patterns and firsts from the 2024/25 Bundesliga season. Today we focus on our loyal fans.
And I would walk 500 miles…
While away trips for a lot of teams from the Ruhr Valley are just a hop, skip and a jump, SC fans regularly face long hauls to support their team on the road. The Freiburg faithful undertook 19 away trips in 2024/25, with a total of 18,906 kilometres of travelling involved to get to and from each stadium. That distance will increase by quite some margin next season, with European adventures on the horizon.
Excuse me, which way to the fjord?
On the penultimate matchday of the campaign, SC didn’t just have the pleasure of taking on their longest away trip of the season up to Kiel’s Holstein-Stadion, but also wrapped up European qualification there. 841 kilometres separate the now relegated side’s home ground and the Europa-Park Stadion, a journey undertaken by around 1,800 Freiburg supporters.
It may surprise you to learn that it isn’t the longest away trip in SC’s Bundesliga history, however. That honour goes to our visits to FC Hansa Rostock, most recently in 2005, with a 915-kilometre trip separating the Ostseestadion from Achim-Stocker-Straße.
50,000 mark broken
SC played 19 away games last season, reaching quadruple figures in away attendance at every match. If you add up all of the Freiburg fans on the road in 2024/25, that’s 50,785 supporters – around the population of Rastatt, Lörrach or even Heidenheim.
The biggest set of travelling SC fans this term was at Borussia Dortmund, with 5,629 in supporting the team in, sadly, a heavy 4-0 defeat in November.
Disabled-friendly away day
Every year, SC Freiburg finances a disabled-friendly bus journey to one of the team’s away games. This season, the destination was Mainz, where SC claimed a draw back in March. Around 40 disabled fans and their helpers were on board this year, travelling with a specially kitted-out bus.
Mid-table finish
In comparison with the other Bundesliga sides, SC bring the 12th-most away fans to league games, with an average of 2,965 supporters in attendance on the road.
Looking at home games, the Breisgau club move up to eighth place, averaging 34,153 attendance at the Europa-Park Stadion.
An almost full house
SC Freiburg were unable to completely sell out the Europa-Park Stadion this season as the away section was never at full capacity. However, home tickets were sold out as usual in all 18 of our competitive games in the league and cup.
There is no bad weather, only bad clothing
Whether rain or shine, nothing will stop many SC fans from travelling to the stadium on home matchdays by bike. Since 2023, main sponsors JobRad have counted the number of bicycles at every home match and donated €1 for each one parked there. We already hit the 200,000 mark back in April, helped by this season’s biggest turnout of bikes of 7,046 at our home game against Borussia Dortmund.
