Germany U21 international makes the move to Freiburg
Derry Scherhant played at youth level for FC Viktoria 1889, Tennis Borussia and Berliner Sport-Club, before joining the Hertha BSC academy in 2020. He played for the Hertha second team for the first time at the age of 18, scoring 30 goals across 55 fourth-tier appearances. He made his Bundesliga debut in January 2023, featuring 78 times for the senior side since. In the past season alone, the 22-year-old appeared 37 times, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists along the way. Derry Scherhant currently plays for the Germany U21 national team.
“In talks with Derry, we got to know and open and realistic young person. We are really excited to be able to unlock his true potential together,” reported sporting director Klemens Hartenbach. “Derry is physically strong, possesses good pace and knows where the goal is. He also demonstrates positive attitude on the field of play. His somewhat unprecedented path to professional football has seen him develop a beneficially invigorated and care-free style of play.”
Derry Scherhant: “Even at the start of talks, I felt a real energy and excitement about working together, so I am very happy. My aim is to give it my all and get as many minutes on the pitch as possible. I am looking forward to the coming season here in Freiburg with great anticipation.”
The details of his contract will remain undisclosed.
