SC Freiburg and assistant coach Florian Bruns have agreed upon a contract extension, whilst goalkeeping coach Michael Müller has also extended his contract. Additionally, Matthias Rosa is set to join the first team set-up as a physiotherapist from the SC women’s team.

Florian Bruns moved to SC from SV Werder Bremen in the summer of 2017. He previously represented Freiburg as a player between 1999 and 2002, whilst he also played for Union Berlin, Alemannia Aachen, FC St. Pauli and Werder’s second team during his career. Bruns joined the coaching staff there and became the Bundesliga side’s assistant coach in 2016. The 44-year-old has been part of the coaching staff for 273 competitive games at SC.

Michael Müller joined Freiburg’s academy as a youth player in 2006 and was part of the team that won the German U19 title in 2008. Müller was the first team’s third-choice goalkeeper in the 2008/09 season and played for the second team in the fourth division. He went on to play for VfL Wolfsburg’s U23s and 1. FC Saarbrücken. He returned to SC in 2014 and was the goalkeeping coach for the academy and the U23s. The 34-year-old has been the first team’s goalkeeping coach since the 2022/23 season.

As a result, the coaching set-up for the 2024/25 season is complete. SC Freiburg are looking forward to working together with head coach Julian Schuster, assistant coaches Lars Voßler, Florian Bruns and Patrik Grolimund, goalkeeping coach Michael Müller, as well as fitness coaches Daniel Wolf and Maximilian Kessler.

Sporting CEO Jochen Saier said: “We’re really pleased to be able to continue working together with Florian and Michael and that both will continue to be an important and valuable part of our coaching set-up. The two contract extensions give us early clarity in terms of the coaching staff we’ll go into next season with. We’re convinced that this set-up ensures quality, stability and continuity, but will also bring new energy and fresh impetus to our coaching team and the work with our squad.”

Matthias Rosa will also be a new addition to the extended first team staff ahead of the new season as a physiotherapist. The 38-year-old is currently head of physiotherapy and fitness for the SC women’s team.

The contract details have not been disclosed.
