The UEFA Europa League group stage draw was made on Friday afternoon in Istanbul. SC Freiburg were drawn in Group G alongside Olympiacos Piraeus, Qarabağ FK and FC Nantes.
The first matchday of the group stage will take place on Thursday 8th September. UEFA will announce the exact dates and times of the fixtures on Saturday. Trips to Greece, Azerbaijan and western France are in store for head coach Christian Streich and his team, with all six group-stage games to be played during this calendar year. The most difficult test for Freiburg could well be 47-time and current Greek champions Olympiacos Piraeus. The team drawn from pot two is Azerbaijani side Qarabağ FK, who are based in the capital Baku. Rounding off the group are FC Nantes, who finished ninth in the French Ligue 1 last season and qualified for the Europa League by winning the Coupe de France.
