SC Freiburg’s 12 internationals spent almost three weeks away with their respective national teams in a newly-extended international break. Germany, Austria and Croatia began their Nations League campaigns, while the Germany and Switzerland U21 sides were competing in European Championship qualifying. Japan faced South American opposition at the KIRIN Cup, DR Congo were in AFCON qualifying action, and Switzerland’s U20s played two matches in the U20 Elite League.
