SC will come up against the winner of the third qualifying round tie between HJK and Motherwell. Monday’s draw also determined that SC will start their Conference League campaign on the road, before returning home for the second leg. 

HJK Helsinki finished fifth in the Veikkausliiga last season, the top division in Finland. They beat Northern Ireland’s Coleraine FC in the second qualifying round (2-0 H, 3-0 A) last month. Motherwell FC finished fourth in Scottish Premiership last season to qualify for the Conference League play-offs. The Steelmen saw off Havnar Bóltfelag from the Faroe Islands in the second qualifying round (2-0 H, 3-0 A). 

The first and second legs of the third qualifying round will take place on 6th and 13 August respectively. SC will therefore find out their opponents one week prior to the first leg of their play-off round tie, which will take place on 20th August. They will then take on Düsseldorf in the first round of the DFB-Pokal on Sunday, 23rd August. The second leg of their play-off tie will take place on 27th August.
