Oliver Leki and Jochen Saier extend contracts
SC Freiburg have extended the contracts of board members Oliver Leki and Jochen Saier until 2030.
Jochen Saier will continue to oversee all sporting matters, which, alongside the Bundesliga men’s team, also include women’s and girls’ football and the Freiburger Fußballschule, SC Freiburg’s youth academy. Oliver Leki will remain board member for finance, organisation and marketing for the next four years, and will therefore continue to be responsible for all commercial areas at SC Freiburg.
“Under the leadership of Oliver Leki and Jochen Saier, our club has developed exceptionally in sporting, financial and organisational terms over recent years, while remaining true to its identity. By extending the contracts of our board members, we are sending out a clear signal of continuity in our leadership and sustainable development at our club. We are convinced that they will continue this successful path in the years ahead with great expertise and passion,” said Dr Heinrich Breit, chairman of SC Freiburg’s supervisory board.
Oliver Leki said: “SC Freiburg are currently going through the most successful period in the club’s history in many respects. We want to continue this positive development together and lead the club into the future with sporting ambition and financial stability. I’m very pleased to have extended my contract and am looking forward to the coming years with SC.”
Jochen Saier said: “SC Freiburg and the people at this special club have been part of my life for half of it. I’m therefore very happy to be able to help shape the future of SC in the years ahead and continue on our path, with ambition, good teamwork, healthy realism and clear guiding principles.”
Jochen Saier has worked full time for SC Freiburg since 2002. From 2003 to 2013, the qualified sports economist was responsible for SC Freiburg’s Freiburger Fußballschule as its director. In April 2013, the Lahr native took on the role of sporting director alongside Klemens Hartenbach, before being appointed board member for sport in October 2014. Jochen Saier also sits on the board of the Freiburger Fußballschule’s support association and has been a member of the Bundesliga’s Football Commission (formerly DFL) since 2016.
Oliver Leki joined SC Freiburg as managing director in 2013 and has served as the club’s board member for finance, organisation and marketing since October 2014. The Worms native has been a member of the Executive Committee and supervisory board of the Bundesliga (formerly DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga) since August 2019, and also sits on the Executive Committee of the German Football Association (DFB).
