Freiburg have signed Hugo Siquet from Standard Liège. He will join the team from the 1st January 2022.
The 19-year-old came through the Belgian side’s academy, making his debut for the first team last season in the UEFA Europa League against Lech Poznan. He has played 32 times in the Jupiler Pro League, providing six assists. He has played every game in the league this season so far and currently plays for the Belgium U21s.
“We have been following Hugo’s journey since he first appeared for Standard. Last summer, a move wasn’t yet possible, so we are even more excited now,” said sporting director Klemens Hartenbach. “Hugo can play right-back in a back four or on the right of a back three. His intelligence on the pitch, his energy and his constant desire to get forward are things that make him stand out. Despite all that, however, we have to remember that he is only 19. Now we want to be a part of the next stages in his development, and we are really looking forward to it.”
Hugo Siquet himself has said: “SC Freiburg is an ambitious, family-orientated club that reflects my values on and off the pitch. I am looking forward to having the opportunity to play for Freiburg soon.”
Hugo Siquet will take the number two shirt. As usual, the two parties have agreed not to disclose the details of the contract.
