SC Freiburg will play Würzburger Kickers away from home in the first round of the DFB-Pokal (6th-9th August).
SC’s first competitive game of the new season is away to Würzburger Kickers, who went down from the 2. Bundesliga last season. This is a particularly interesting draw considering Freiburg’s reserve side will play Würzburg two weeks later in the 3. Liga.
Former Bundesliga player Thomas Broich and DFB vice-president Peter Frymuth conducted the draw on Sunday evening. Having constantly been given first-round draws against sides up north, Freiburg now have a relatively short journey for the second successive season. Last year, SC won 2-1 in Mannheim before going out 1-0 to VfB Stuttgart in the second round.
The first round of this season’s Pokal will be played between 6th-9th August. Exact kick-off times will be announced 10 days after the draw at the earliest.
