SC Freiburg have agreed to mutually terminate midfielder Florian Kath’s contract. The 26-year-old has subsequently joined 1. FC Magdeburg.
Florian Kath moved to SC’s reserve side in summer 2013 from TSG Balingen, going on to play 71 times in the Regionalliga and scoring 11 goals. Kath’s Bundesliga debut for the first team came in February 2015 away at Hertha BSC. He appeared in 31 competitive games for Freiburg, with long-term injuries preventing further appearances. Kath spent both 2016/17 and last season on loan at third-tier side 1. FC Magdeburg.
“Flo is a great guy, who had a lot of positive energy and always got stuck in. Unfortunately, his progress was constantly halted by injuries,” said sporting director Jochen Saier. “We really hope that he can show his quality on a long-term basis at Magdeburg now.”
SC Freiburg would like to thank Florian Kath for his hard work over the last eight years and wishes him all the best for the future.
