Kimberly Ezekwem, who recently moved up to the first team from the Freiburg U23s, has extended his contract with the club.
The 20-year-old defender joined Freiburg U23s from FC Bayern München in 2018 and made his debut for the reserves in 2020/21. He made 37 appearances at centre-back, as the team won promotion to the 3. Liga.
"Kimberly's dynamism, pace and his variablity make him a very talented and exciting player. Now, he's meant to take his next step," said sporting director Klemens Hartenbach. "We had all hoped that we would be able to get him back to full fitness so that he would be able to undergo this development. Hats off to Kimberly and all those involved."
"Of course I had hoped that I'd be able to get a taste of professional football after joining Freiburg," said Ezekwem. "Extending my contract is a great confirmation and motivation for what's next. I'm looking forward to the challenge of being part of the first-team squad and want to take advantage of every training session in order to continue improving."
Details about the contract will not be released.
