SC Freiburg has made the decision to not appeal the decision of the DFB sports court.
The DFB sports court rejected SC Freiburg’s contestation of the result of last weekend’s fixture against FC Bayern München today.
The court based its ruling on the supposed eligibility of substituting on the twelfth player and the predominant culpability being on the shoulders of the match officials during the substitution process. This case concerns itself with questions of interpretation and evaluation.
As explained in the club’s detailed statement on 4th April 2022, it was important to SC Freiburg that the violation of the rules regarding substitutions during the match against FC Bayern München were reviewed. In doing so, the SC Freiburg board has fulfilled its duties of care and loyalty to the club.
After reviewing the reasons for the judgement, SC Freiburg sees no further reason to lodge a further appeal.
In conclusion, there still remains the question, following this ruling as well as the associated processes, as to whether the existing regulation and procedures will continue to be appropriate in their current form in future.
