SC Freiburg’s first season at the Europa-Park Stadion will come to a close on Saturday, as the team prepare to host 1. FC Union Berlin in front of a sold-out crowd (15:30 CEST).

Matthias Ginter will return to SC Freiburg, the club where he once began his career. The 28-year-old centre-back will move from Borussia Mönchengladbach ahead of the 2022/23 season.

SC Freiburg confirm that Nico Schlotterbeck will join Borussia Dortmund. The 22-year-old underwent a medical examination in Dortmund today and signs a contract with BVB until 2027.

Freiburg beat Baden-Württemberg rivals TSG Hoffenheim 4-3 and guaranteed their place in Europe next season in the process. Rolland Sallai (23’), Christian Günter (50’), Lucas Höler (70’) and Wooyeong Jeong (73’) scored for SC, whereas Andrej Kramaric (32’), Angelo Stiller (49’) and Georginio Rutter (84’) got Hoffenheim’s goals.

SC Freiburg have reached the final of the DFB Pokal for the first time in the club’s history. Freiburg beat Hamburger SV 3-1 in the semi-final on Tuesday with goals from Nils Petersen, Nicolas Höfler and Vincenzo Grifo.

On Tuesday evening, SC Freiburg will take on Hamburger SV in the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal (20:45 CEST). The match will take place in front of a soldout crowd, with Freiburg selling out their allotment as well.
