Michael Gregoritsch joined the club in summer 2022 from FC Augsburg. The Austrian appeared in 107 competitive games for Freiburg, scoring 30 goals. The 31-year-old’s spell in Germany saw him play in 387 games and net 94 times in total. After five games in the Danish Superliga, Brøndby IF sit in fifth place and will play on Thursday in the Conference League play-offs against RC Strasbourg.

“Gregerl has been one of the main faces in our team for the past three years, and we have had lots of great moments with him. His winning goal in extra time against Lens, for example, will always be an unforgettable moment,” said chief sporting officer Joachen Saier. “We would like to thank Gregerl for his contributions and wish him the best of luck in the rest of his career. Gregerl will always be welcome back in Freiburg.”

Michael Gregoritsch himself said: “Freiburg has become has become dear to me in the past few years – not just in sporting sense but also personally. The decision really wasn’t easy for me. I look back on our journey together fondly and can say that I am a true SC fan.”
