A week after SC’s Europa League final defeat in Istanbul, Crystal Palace enjoyed the moment Freiburg had been denied as they lifted a European trophy. Former Mainz forward Jean-Philippe Mateta scored the only goal of the game as the south London side beat Rayo Vallecano in the Conference League final in Leipzig.

81 days later, Freiburg will host a meeting between the Conference League winners and the Europa League finalists. SC are holding their annual season opening event, with Crystal Palace visiting the Breisgau for the first time. Kick-off at the Europa-Park Stadion is at 14:00 CEST on Saturday, 15th August. There will also be a range of activities around the stadium from 10:00 CEST.

Crystal Palace had already won the FA Cup under outgoing head coach Oliver Glasner the previous year, while finishing 15th in the Premier League.
