Cyriaque Irié made the move to French second-division side Troyes from FCO Dijon last summer before making 38 competitive appearances during his first season in senior football. He scored a total of eight goals, while providing a further three assists. Irié was born in Ivory Coast but currently plays internationally for the Burkina Faso U20s. He has received his first senior call-up to the Burkina Faso national team for June’s international fixtures.

“Cyriaque is very talented and possesses great foundational qualities. He is blessed with good pace, is exciting in terms of his physical attributes and demonstrates a beneficial attitude when out of possession. He can operate on either flank but has already played as a central forward as well,” reported sporting director Klemens Hartenbach. “We have been keeping tabs on his progress since his Dijon days and are really pleased to be able to continue to develop his abilities in all areas together further. It goes without saying that Cyriaque will be giving all the time he needs to adapt, since the step up to playing in the Bundesliga is a big one. However, we have every faith that he can achieve this with us.”

Cyriaque Irié: “Making this next step to join Freiburg is great for my development. The club and head coach Julian Schuster want to integrate young players and that is very important for me. Already in the first conversations I had with the coach, we discussed Freiburg’s style of play, looking to defend as a unit, as well as the way the team goes about things. I know that it will be tough, but that is normal. I am young and will be all ears to the advice provided by those in senior positions.”

It has been agreed that contract details shall remain undisclosed.
