The DFL have released the fixture list for the 2022/23 season. The start of the season will see SC Freiburg travel to FC Augsburg, on the weekend of August 6th-7th. Borussia Dortmund will travel to the Europa-Park Stadion for SCF’s first home game of the campaign.
The start of the Bundesliga season, a week after Christian Streich’s team face 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the DFB-Pokal first round, is confirmed. SCF will travel to FC Augsburg, before BVB visit the Europa-Park Stadion on matchday 2 – the weekend of August 12th-14th will mean a reunion with Nico Schlotterbeck, who has moved to Dortmund from Freiburg following the end of the season. A Baden-Württemberg derby will take place the following week, with SCF travelling to VfB Stuttgart on August 19th-21st.
The only international break of the opening half of the season will be at the end of September (21/09 – 27/09), with a week’s extra break between matchdays 7 and 8.
Final game of 2022 against Union in mid-November
With the 2022 FIFA World Cup taking place in Qatar from November 21st to December 18th 2022, the Bundesliga will break up on November 13th for an extended winter break. The final game of the year for SC Freiburg will be against 1. FC Union Berlin, on the weekend of November 11th-13th.
The final games of the first half of the season (the “Hinrunde”) have had to be moved to a three-game week in January due to the winter World Cup. When the Bundesliga restarts, matchday 16 will see SC travel to VfL Wolfsburg on January 20th-22nd, before a midweek clash with Europa League champions Eintracht Frankfurt on January 24th-25th. The second half of the campaign begins the following weekend, when FC Augsburg visit the Europa-Park Stadion.
