Vincenzo Grifo signs contract extension
SC Freiburg and Vincenzo Grifo have agreed to extend his contract after many successful years together.
Vincenzo Grifo already ranks among the leading names in SC Freiburg’s record books. With 108 goals and 98 assists, the 33-year-old is the club’s record goalscorer and assist provider, while his 360 competitive appearances rank him fourth in Freiburg history.
Grifo won the Bundesliga 2 title and promotion to the Bundesliga in his first season with Freiburg in 2015/16. The attacking midfielder joined Borussia Mönchengladbach in summer 2017 before moving to TSG Hoffenheim a year later. He returned to Freiburg on loan in January 2019 and rejoined the club permanently that summer.
“Working with Vince is special, whether that’s on the pitch, in the dressing room or in our conversations with him,” said sporting director Klemens Hartenbach. “His consistent performances and the support he provides to his teammates make him hugely important to the whole group. Vince is still as hungry as ever, so we’re delighted that he’s extended his contract.”
Vincenzo Grifo said: “My journey here isn’t over yet and there are still a number of things I want to achieve. I’m very ambitious and I want to be on the pitch in every game. The competition from the younger players keeps me on my toes and makes all of us better. My family was also a major factor. We’ve found a home here in Freiburg, so it was an easy decision for me.”
The terms of the contract will not be disclosed.
