After a brief departure from the usual schedule last year, when the club's captaincy group was not elected until shortly before the first competitive fixture, this year’s vote once again took place during the team's pre-season training camp in Schruns. The outcome remained unchanged. On Tuesday evening, the squad voted to retain Christian Günter as captain, while Maximilian Eggestein and Vincenzo Grifo will continue in their roles as vice-captains.

SC's record appearance-maker is preparing for his 15th season in Freiburg as a professional, and indeed his seventh as captain. "It does feel a little different every time," said Günter. "We've welcomed a number of new players into the squad again, and we want to go through the season as a strong group. We're on the right track in this respect, and as captains we want to support that by always being there for our teammates and having a good feel for what the situation requires. I'm very grateful for the trust my teammates have shown in me."

The remaining positions on the team council have yet to be filled. The vacant places will be decided before the start of the new season.
