SC complete signing of Yannik Engelhardt
Yannik Engelhardt has joined SC Freiburg from Como 1907. The midfielder previously spent two years developing in Breisgau, running out for SC Freiburg II between 2021 and 2023.
Engelhardt spent last season at Borussia Mönchengladbach on loan from Como. The 25-year-old was a regular starter for the Foals, making 33 appearances in all competitions. During the 2024/25 season, the midfielder featured for Como in Serie A, making 26 appearances in Italy’s top flight. Before that, he played 37 games during a year-long spell at Fortuna Düsseldorf and narrowly missed out on promotion to the Bundesliga after Fortuna were beaten in the relegation play-offs.
Engelhardt was already an SC Freiburg player between 2021 and 2023, initially joining on loan from Werder Bremen. During that time, he made 54 appearances for the club’s U23 side in the 3. Liga.
“Yannik made a very strong impression during his first spell at SC. He can read a game brilliantly and is very good technically. At his two previous clubs, the ability to provide structure and stability to his side was demanded of him, and now we want to combine those strengths with his attacking qualities,” said SC Freiburg sporting director Klemens Hartenbach. “Our contact with Yannik has never broken down over the past three years. There is still a great deal of SC in Yannik, both as a player and as a person. We are delighted that he is back with us.”
Engelhardt himself said: “The connection to SC has never been lost – whether with the players or the people in charge. It feels really good to be back in Freiburg, and I received such a warm welcome. There’s a real sense of ambition here, which I like, and I’m hungry to get started.”
Yannik Engelhardt will wear the number 16 shirt. The details of the contract have not been disclosed.
