Merlin Röhl completes permanent Everton move

SC Freiburg can confirm that Merlin Röhl has completed a permanent move to Everton FC. The 24-year-old spent last season on loan at the Premier League side.

Röhl initially joined Everton on loan on the final day of the transfer window in September 2025. Following the Toffees’ 13th-place finish last season ensuring they stayed in the Premier League, an obligation to buy has now been triggered.

The midfielder has made 17 competitive appearances for Everton so far and featured in each of their last four Premier League games. He scored his first goal in England against Sunderland on the penultimate matchday. Röhl, who joined SC from FC Ingolstadt in August 2022 and initially played for the U23s in the 3. Liga, made 60 appearances for Freiburg across the Bundesliga, Europa League and DFB-Pokal.
