"I'm glad to be back," says Jonathan Schmid. Before moving to TSG Hoffenheim in 2015, the Frenchman wore Freiburg colours for both the youth and U23s teams (2008-2011), before eventually breaking into the first team (2011-2015). In 2019/20, he will add to his 131 Bundesliga appearances and 22 goals for the club. "Freiburg was always in my heart," explains the Strasbourg native, who played as a right-back in his last three years with FC Augsburg. But "Johnny" Schmid, who is also a set-piece specialist, is now seen as an attacking option on the flanks. His younger brother Anthony also plays for Freiburg, currently in the reserves.
