15th training camp in Schruns

For the 15th time, SC Freiburg will spend pre-season in Schruns. 24 players arrived at the team hotel on Thursday morning.

Roland Sallai and Philipp Lienhart, who took part in EURO 2020, plus Wooyeong Jeong, who spent large parts of the summer with South Korea’s Olympics squad, were all on board. Christian Günter, on the other hand, was given a couple of extra days off and will join up with the squad on Sunday.

On Friday afternoon, the team will bike from the Hotel Vitalquelle to the training ground. There, they will take on FC Vaduz from Switzerland at 15:00 CEST. “That works well,” said assistant coach Lars Voßler. “We wanted two friendlies during the training camp and this enables us to play them a week apart.” Seven days later, SC will take on Bayer Leverkusen in an all-Bundesliga clash in Wattens (14:00 CEST). Both games will see two halves of 60 minutes played and can be watched for free on the website.

The training sessions won’t differ from those in previous years during the training camps, meaning work with and without the ball, counterattacks and set pieces will all be worked on. Integrating new signings isn’t on the agenda this year, however. “We have been able to keep the squad together, which makes things easier from a tactical perspective,” commented Voßler. “Nevertheless, we hope that one or two new faces will still join us.”

Fans will be able to watch the players train and play from the stands in Schruns. The training times will be printed out on a sheet on the entrance to the stand each day. To attend, fans must either be vaccinated (from 22 days after the first one, or immediately after the second), provide a negative test (PCR no older than 72 hours; antigen no older than 48 hours; rapid test with certificate no older than 24 hours), or have recovered from Covid-19 (certificate needed that isn’t older than 6 months or antibody test that isn’t older than three months). Stewards from FC Schruns will be checking this upon arrival. Fans will not be able to stand at the side of the pitch.
